Verizon launches new prepaid plans, an $80 smartphone plan and LTE Mobile Broadband plans
Verizon launches new prepaid plans tomorrow, May 1st, 2012, an $80 smartphone and LTE hotspot plans. A prepaid $80 smartphone plan includes unlimited talk, text and 1GB of data per month. The only phone compatible with this plan is Samsung Illusion, offered in a prepaid package for $169.99. Verizon’s new offer will be available in Verizon’s stores and online, on its website, while in the next few weeks, users will be able to purchase it at major retailers Best Buy, Target, RadioShack and Walmart. U Prepaid service announced by U.S. Cellular and Alltel in Walmart stores in May
A new no contract wireless U Prepaid service announced by U.S. Cellular and Alltel is going to be available in select Walmart stores, sometime in May. The U Prepaid wireless service will be available across 18 states, in nearly 500 Walmart stores. It will run on U.S. Cellular or Alltel’s network, depending on users’ locations. Read more
Page Plus Power Text Unlimited lowered to $15 per month as of May 23
Verizon’s MVNO Page Plus will have its Power Text Unlimited lowered from $19.95 to $15.00 per month as of May 23rd, according to its premier online dealer Kitty Wireless. This add-on texting option can be added only to Standard minutes plan if talking is not all that customer needs. Read more
Forthcoming Republic Wireless phones to be offered in three price points
Republic Wireless has started with organizing the second round of beta testing. Its unique $19 unlimited service is relying on WiFi most of the time and on Sprint’s network only when WiFi is not accessible. This time, forthcoming Republic Wireless phones will be available in three price points unlike the only one, $199 for outdated LG Optimus One, in the first beta.
TracFone Q1 results show growing data revenues but lower subscriber growth
América Móvil’s TracFone Q1 results for 2012 show that the company ended up with 20.1 million subscribers in total, an increase of 8.6 percent from last year, after it gained 369,000 net subscribers in the first quarter. However, this is decrease from 493,000 of added subscribers in the Q4 last year and from 780,000 from the same period a year ago. Read more
MetroPCS Q1 results below expectation, slower growth year over year, fewer subscriber additions than estimated
In MetroPCS Q1 results for 2012, it’s been clear that this flat-rate carrier isn’t doing quite that well. The company reported adding 131,654 net subscribers, which is addition but much less than expected. Last year, in the same quarter, they have added 725,945 users, so it’s 82 percent drop. Leap Wireless’s Cricket added 258,000 new subscribers even though it’s a smaller provider. Read more

Leap Wireless’s Cricket Q1 results for 2012 are mostly positive. The carrier has added 258,000 of new subscribers, which makes it a total of 6.2 million subscribers. The carrier also said that nearly 62 percent of its new phone sales were smartphones and Muve Music phones, which probably is one of the reasons why carrier announced focusing on more sophisticated, higher-end smartphones, in addition to those in each price category. Sprint Q1 results show gain in prepaid and loss in postpaid side
Sprint Q1 results for the 2012 came out with some good and bad numbers. Most of good ones are related to Sprints prepaid divisions. Generally, for the first quarter, company had wireless service revenues of $7.2 billion, which is a seven percent increase year over year. Despite the increase, they still had an operating loss of $255 million and an $863 million net loss, which is smaller than they have projected. Read more
Sprint WiMAX network will be used by Boost and Virgin Mobile
What was just a speculation few days ago, about Boost and Virgin Mobile offering 4G to its customers through Sprint’s WiMAX 4G network, now is confirmed. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said in an investor call today that Sprint’s WiMAX network will be used by Boost and Virgin Mobile, its prepaid divisions, later this year. Read more
