AT&T GoPhone Increases Data Allotments on the $45 and $60 Plans
AT&T today announced that its prepaid brand GoPhone will increase high speed data allotments on the $45 and $60 smartphone plans. GoPhone increases data allotments on these two plans starting Friday, November 11, 2016. The $45 plan will include 4GB of high speed data instead of current 3GB. Also, the $60 plan will include 8GB of high speed data instead of 6GB.
Both plans cost $5 less per month for those who opt to pay their monthly bills automatically. Therefore, customers will be able to get 4GB of data for $40 per month and 8GB of data for $55 per month. When high speed data allotment is reached, GoPhone throttles data speed to up to 128Kbps until the next billing cycle. Both plans also allow unused data to rollover to a next month and are eligible to multi-line discounts.
GoPhone Prepaid Plans
So, starting next Friday, GoPhone prepaid plans will look like this:
- The $60 plan ($55 with autopay) – unlimited talk, text and data with 8GB at high speed (up from 6GB), unlimited talk and text from the U.S. to Mexico and Canada and talk, text and data usage in Mexico and Canada
- The $45 plan ($40 with autopay) – unlimited talk, text and data with 4GB at high speed (up from 3GB) in addition to unlimited messaging to Mexico, Canada and over 100 countries
- The $30 plan ($25 with autopay) – unlimited talk, text and unlimited messaging to Mexico, Canada and over 100 countries; data can be added for $5 per 250MB.
Few days ago, GoPhone has increased data on add-ons too. To the $60 plan, customers can add $10/1 GB or $20/3 GB data packages (was available only $10/1 GB) and to the $45 plan $10/1 GB data add-on (was $10/500MB). On the $30 plan, data is also increased from $5/100MB to 250MB for the same price.
GoPhone Smartphone Deals
In addition to adding more high speed data to $45 and $60 plans, GoPhone is offering some great deals on 4G LTE smartphones. Starting Friday, November 11 and through the end of the year, December 31, 2016 customers will be able to get the ZTE Maven 2 for free when they activate a new line and pay at least $30 for service. Also, the LG Phoenix 2 will be discounted to $49.99, down from $69.99, in the same period.
Comparing to Cricket and Verizon Prepaid
Few days ago, AT&T owned Cricket Wireless has also increased high speed data on its $50 plan from 5GB to 8GB but for a limited time. Cricket’s $50/8GB plan can cost $45 per month with autopay but let’s not forget that AT&T limits Cricket’s LTE speeds to 8Mbps and 4G to 4Mbps while data speeds on GoPhone are the same as AT&T’s.
Increasing data allotments on GoPhone was rather expected. Verizon prepaid division has added couple of new plans recently with significant amounts of data. Even though promotional and Walmart exclusive, Verizon prepaid $50 and $70 plans offer 5GB and 10GB, respectively. This limited time offer is available only with Verizon Prepaid SIMs and phones purchased at Walmart but even with limitation, the offer is quite competitive and AT&T responds to it.
