Boost Mobile iPhone SE Launching Soon, Virgin Mobile’s too
Sprint’s prepaid brand Boost Mobile today announced that the iPhone SE will be added to its prepaid phone lineup. The carrier hasn’t revealed the exact release date or the phone’s pricing but according to its twitter account, Boost Mobile iPhone SE will be available soon.
Update 3/29: Boost Mobile’s sister company Virgin Mobile has announced iPhone SE on its website, too.
Boost Mobile isn’t the first prepaid carrier to announce the launch of the latest Apple smartphone, iPhone SE. AT&T’s prepaid brand GoPhone has made it available couple of days ago. While GoPhone is offering iPhone SE 16GB for $399.99 and 64GB model for $499.99, which is the same pricing as from Apple, we can expect Boost to offer its versions for cheaper. In previous years, with previous iPhone models, Boost and its sister company Virgin Mobile have been offering them for $100 less at launch. While users are asking themselves why to buy iPhone SE from a carrier and lock itself to it when for the same money they can buy it from Apple and activate it with whom they want, $100 less for this phone might be a good reason to lock yourself to Boost Mobile.
Apple refers to the iPhone SE as “the most powerful 4-inch phone ever,” which is true given that this little smartphone is like iPhone 5S in size and like iPhone 6S specs-wise (with few exceptions). For those who like powerful smartphones that easily fit in any pocket and which are hopefully $100 cheaper than with Apple and other providers, Boost Mobile iPhone SE can be a good choice.
Boost Mobile iPhone SE Specs
iPhone SE features a 4-inch 640 x 1136 Retina display, the iOS 9.3 OS, A9 dual-core 1.84 GHz Twister processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB/64GB internal storage that cannot be additionally expanded due to lack of memory card slot. It comes with a back 12-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 4K video 2160p@30fps, a 1.2-megapixel front-facing one with 720p@30fps HD video, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, USB 2.0, WiFi, GPS, NFC for Apple Pay only and non-removable Li-Po 1642 mAh battery that provides up to 14 hours of talk time and up to 240 hours of standby time.
Boost Mobile iPhone SE works with growing data plans and $60 unlimited service plan:
- $35 plan ($30 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, text and data with 2GB at high speed that can grow up to 5GB after 18 on-time payments
- $45 plan ($40 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, text and data with 5GB at high speed that can grow up to 8GB after 18 on-time payments
- $60 plan ($55 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, text and data (unthrottled)
Boost throttles data speeds to approximately 128Kbps until the next billing cycle when high speed data allotment is used up in a month. All plans include unlimited music streaming that doesn’t count against user’s high speed data, hotspot and free incoming calls and text messages even if customers don’t pay for the service for up to 60 days.
