LG originally announced new K Series smartphones as affordable phones that feature “advanced camera technology and UX features of LG’s premium models.” Therefore, the Tribute 5 (LG K7) comes with features as Gesture shot, Selfie light, QuickMemo+, Knock Code for better security and Knock On for putting your phone to sleep or for waking it up by double tapping on screen.
In addition to features that premium LG phones usually include, the LG Tribute 5 has a 5-inch IPS display, Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and microSDHC card support for up to 32GB of extra memory. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with video capture and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies. Also, the phone is capable for international use; it’s 3G/4G LTE/Enhanced LTE-enabled and has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and mobile hotspot support (additional $5 per month). The Tribute 5 is powered by a removable 2125 mAH Li-Ion battery that provides up to 14.5 hours of talk time.
Boost Mobile LG Tribute 5 can be paired with $35 and $45 growing data plans and $60 unlimited plan. Growing data plans grow data; after every 3 on-time payments additional 500MB are added, up to 3GB after 18 on-time payments. The plans include:
- $35 plan ($30 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, text and data with 2GB at high speed that can grow up to 5GB
- $45 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 5GB at high speed that can grow up to 8GB
- $60 plan – unlimited talk, text and data (un-throttled)
Boost Mobile throttles data speeds to approximately 128Kbps when high speed data on growing data plans are used up. Also, all Boost plans include unlimited free music streaming from music streaming providers as Pandora, Slacker Radio, iHeartRadio, Samsung Milk Music and 8tracks. Music streaming doesn’t count against plan’s high speed data.
For a limited time, until January 25, 2016, customers who switch from any carrier that’s not Sprint related to Boost Mobile can get a $50 credit when purchasing Boost smartphones, including the LG Tribute 5. In order to qualify, customers need to activate the phone with one of the Boost monthly plans by February 14, 2016.
Also, Boost Mobile currently sells iPhone 5s for $149.99, which is $150 instant savings. Its sister company Virgin Mobile offers the same deal, also for a limited time.
T-Mobile and its prepaid brand MetroPCS will also launch the LG K7. When or for how much the phone might be released, it’s haven’t been disclosed.
