BYOD at Straight Talk and Net10 from February 7thSome great and quite positive changes are happening in the prepaid world, great for prepaid users but less great for competition. Offering option of BYOD at Straight Talk and Net10 was quite unexpected right now since both carriers just announced access to 4G service on T-Mobile network and 4G capable phone LG Optimus 2x in their lineup. The 4G speeds at $45 per month with unlimited talk, text and web was a pleasant surprise but Straight Talk and Net10 went even further with allowing users’ to bring their own AT&T or T-Mobile compatible GSM device or unlocked GSM handset.

Option to BYOD at Straight Talk and Net10 will become available in a few days time, most likely February 7th. All that users have to do is to buy unlocked SIMs from them for $14.99 each, along with unlimited plan activation. Straight Talk’s unlimited plan is $45 per month while NET10 offers unlimited plan for $50. This service does not work only with BlackBerrys.

As far as how much “unlimited” data there is in “unlimited” plans, well, it’s not verified yet but seems like users will be limited to 2GB per month and 100-200MB per day. Even so, this is truly a great offer. Those who knew how were already doing it anyway, by buying Nokia Symbian smartphones with unlocked SIMs that worked in AT&T and unlocked GSM phones. This way, of course is much better since they don’t have to buy device that they don’t need and since the process of making it work is much simpler, anybody can do it now, in a legitimate way.

Is it only going to recive EDGE if I use an UNLOCKED AT&T phone? When I bought my Atrix 2 and used it for T-Mobile it only had Edge.
