Cricket Wireless adds HTC Desire 520, discounts smartphones for switching to Cricket and extends Cricket Protect on Sept. 11
AT&T owned Cricket Wireless today announced that starting tomorrow, September 11, 2015, it will add the exclusive HTC Desire 520 to its prepaid smartphone lineup. Also tomorrow, Cricket will start offering a new fall promotion to customers who port their phone number to Cricket and it will extend the opportunity for customers to sign up for insurance for previously purchased Cricket phones.

The HTC Desire 520 features Android 5.1 Lollipop, quad-core processor, 4G LTE connectivity, rear and front-facing camera with “Double Exposure”, 720p video capture and HTC features as Zoe, BlinkFeed and more. The phone comes with Extreme Power Saving Mode that makes it last more than a week on a full charge or overnight on a 10 % charge. The Desire 520 will be available for $99.99.
Customers who port their phone number to Cricket from another carrier will be able to get LG Risio LTE for just $19.99 (regular $99.99) or LG G Stylo, also LTE-capable, for $99.99 (regular $199.99).
As part of Cricket’s fall promotion, other smartphones will be discounted starting tomorrow as well. LG Risio LTE and LG G Stylo will also be available to other customers besides those who port their number to Cricket but at slightly higher cost. The cost of the LG Risio LTE will be reduced to $49.99 (regular $99.99) while LG G Stylo will be available for $149.99 (regular $199.99). Other phones included with this promotion are:
- ZTE Grand X Max+ LTE – available for $129.99, original price $219.99, currently online $169.99
- Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime LTE – available for $149.99, original price $179.99, currently online $129.99
- Samsung Galaxy S 4 LTE – available for $199.99, original price $429.99, currently online $249.99
- Samsung Galaxy S 5 LTE – available for $399.99, original price $589.99, currently online $489.99
- Samsung Galaxy S 6 LTE – available for $499.99, original price $649.99
All these phones can be paired with Cricket’s prepaid monthly plans that cost $5 less per month when customers sign in to auto pay. The $40, $50 and $60 plans ($35, $45 and $55 with auto pay) include unlimited talk, messaging and data with first 2.5GB, 5GB and 10GB at high speeds, respectively. The $50 and the $60 plans also include unlimited international texting to 38 countries, unlimited talk and messaging to Mexico and Canada (texts, picture and video messages) and unlimited talk and text Mexico and Canada roaming (SMS only).
Also, Cricket’s device protection program called Cricket Protect has been extended from September 11 to October 30, 2015. The special “open enrollment period” will be available in stores only. The monthly cost of insurance ranges from $7 to $10 depending on device and covers the cost of the phone in case of it being lost, stolen or damaged.
