Updated: DROID Turbo Android 5.1 update soak test started, full rollout ‘later this week’
Update July 1st: Verizon Wireless yesterday said that Android 5.1 update for DROID Turbo will start today afternoon, July 1, ET. The update will be rolling in phases over the next few weeks. Customers can also manually download the update in Settings – About Phone – System Update.
Finally, there is something concrete to offer to DROID Turbo owners given that they have been waiting for their phones to be updated to Android 5.1 for some time now. The trouble is in their phones running Android 4.4.4 KitKat version so there is a lot of good features they are missing on. But the wait is over, nearly. The soak test of Android 5.1 update has just started, according to David Schuster, and if all goes well, the full deployment of update will start ‘later this week’.
“I know this is going to make some people happy…. we have started the DROID Turbo soak test for the Android 5.1 upgrade this evening with our forum registered users. If all goes well we will open it up later this week.” – said David Schuster.
Only yesterday, Motorola sent a comforting tweet to DROIDTurbo owner: “Thanks for your patience. We hope you’re as excited as we are about #Lollipop – coming to a #DROIDTurbo near you.” Well, that showed to be fairly quickly.
Motorola also provided DROID TURBO Android 5.1 release notes today. DROID Turbo owners will receive all bunches of features that unlocked Moto X (1st Gen.) has received recently since both phones have skipped update to Android 5.0 version. The update will bring new material design user interface makeover, improvements on notifications, handling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth from Quick Settings, smarter internet connections thanks to improved hand-offs between Wi-Fi and cellular connections, phone’s better performance due to Android Runtime optimizing performance of applications and much more.
