FreedomPop Launches SIM with Free Access to WhatsApp in the U.S. and 30 Other Countries
FreedomPop today launched a zero-rated WhatsApp SIM card in the U.S.. The new SIM with free access to WhatsApp also works in more than 30 other countries in the Europe and Southeast Asia without roaming charges. Some of the countries included are the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and more.
In addition to free unlimited WhatsApp service, the new FreedomPop WhatsApp SIM card offers 100 voice minutes, 100 texts and 200 MB of data, also for free. Customers can earn additional free data each month by adding their friends. If users need more data, minutes or texts besides free allotment, there is a possibility to add them. New SIM can be used on Android and iOS devices. WhatsApp SIM is available for free on FreedomPop’s website.
“There really is no reason anyone should have to pay for voice and text in today’s environment. Over-the-top communication services like WhatsApp have eliminated the need for traditional voice and text services that carriers still force U.S. users to pay hundreds of dollars a year for. The zero-rated model is gaining traction in more developing countries, and FreedomPop is leading the way here in the U.S.” – said Chris Chen, FreedomPop’s SVP Product.
The U.S. is not the first country where FreedomPop has launched zero-rated service on this messaging app. Last month, the carrier launched its service in Spain, the second country where its service is now available (the first is U.K.). In Spain, FreedomPop is offering 100 voice minutes, 300 texts, and 200MB of data each month for free. However, the carrier is also providing unlimited free access to WhatsApp since the launch.
Back in January, FreedomPop launched Global Hotspot with access to up to 200MB of free data in 25 countries.
