LG Tribute HD Launches at Boost and Virgin Mobile
Sprint prepaid brands Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA have added the LG Tribute HD to their prepaid smartphone lineups. The Tribute HD is a successor of the LG’s Tribute 5 (LG K7), which was also released by both carriers. Boost Mobile LG Tribute HD is available for $79.99 while Virgin Mobile’s version, which is exactly the same as Boost’s, costs $99.99.
LG Tribute HD Specs
The LG Tribute HD features a 5-inch HD (1280×720) display, 1.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 212 processor, 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Memory can be additionally expanded up to 32GB via microSD cards. The phone uses an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash for picture taking, 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and Android 6 Marshmallow OS. A 2,100mAh Li-lon battery powers the Boost and Virgin Mobile LG Tribute HD and provides up to 15 hours of talk time. The phone is also enabled for Mexico roaming but customers need to pay $5 extra for it per month.
Boost Mobile LG Tribute HD
LG Tribute HD at Boost is compatible with new $30 Unlimited Starter and $50 Unlimited Unhook’d plans, which include:
- $30 Unlimited Starter plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 1 GB at 4G LTE speeds. The plan also includes unlimited music streaming. Customers can add more high speed data to this plan: 1 GB for $5 per month or 2 GB for $10 per month.
- $50 Unlimited Unhook’d plan – unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data. Video and music streaming as well as gaming is optimized: videos at up to 480p, music at up to 500kbps and gaming up to 2mbps. Also, hotspot is limited to 8GB of 4G LTE data.
Both plans also include 50 domestic voice roaming minutes. In addition, a $5 auto pay discount applies each month if customers pay their monthly bills automatically.
Customers can also add more lines, up to five, to both plans for $30 per month.
Virgin Mobile LG Tribute HD
At Virgin, the Tribute HD works with couple of the newly introduced plans. They start at $35 per month:
- $35 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 5GB at high speed
- $45 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 10GB at high speed
Just as Boost plans, new plans at Virgin Mobile also include free music streaming that doesn’t count against plans’ high speed data. In addition, customers can add more high speed data to both plans per 30 days: $5/1GB or $10/2GB of high speed data.
Even though the cost of the new phone is higher at Virgin Mobile, they still offer more high speed data on their low cost plan, $35/5GB comparing to Boost’s $30/1GB. Boost customers can add more high speed data, 1GB for $5 but still, for the same monthly cost $35, Virgin would offer 5GB while Boost would have 2GB.
Which higher priced plan is a better deal, Boost’s $50 plan with unlimited 4G LTE data but optimized streaming or Virgin’s $45 plan with 10GB of high speed data that can be used as wanted, really depends of what user needs and prefers. For someone who streams a lot, Boost’s $50 plan is a better deal. If that’s not the case, users should go for Virgin’s $45 plan since it’s cheaper and 10GB is more than enough for web surfing. Users should also keep in mind that data on Boost can be used for hotspot while at Virgin, it’s charged additionally. Coverage is the same.
