MetroPCS Increases Hotspot Data to 10GB on $60 Unlimited Plan, Lowers Data on $40 Plan to 5GB
T-Mobile’s prepaid brand MetroPCS has made some changes to its monthly plans. On the $60 Unlimited LTE data plan MetroPCS increases hotspot data. The $60 plan users can now use 10 GB of 4G LTE data for hotspot instead of previous 8 GB.
A less positive change that MetroPCS has introduced on its website is reduced high speed data on the $40 monthly plan. This plan is now offering 5 GB of high speed data instead of previous 6 GB. The change is most likely valid for new plan activations. Existing users of this plan, however, will probably be able to keep 6 GB of data as long as they don’t change the plan.
MetroPCS Monthly Plans
With new changes, MetroPCS prepaid plan offerings include:
- $30 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 2 GB of 4G LTE
- $40 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 5 GB of 4G LTE (was 6 GB of 4G LTE)
- $50 plan – unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data with optimized video streaming at up to 480p
- $60 plan – unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE un-throttled data with HD video streaming and 10GB hotspot data (was 8 GB hotspot data)
The plans also come with mobile hotspot, Data Maximizer and Music Unlimited (on $40 plan or higher). MetroPCS throttles data speeds to around 128Kbps when monthly high speed data limit is reached. Carrier also recently increased the data depriorization threshold to 35 GB instead of 32 GB.
Increasing hotspot data to 10 GB on the $60 Unlimited plan is definitely a positive change. Boost Mobile offers 8GB of hotspot data on its $50 unlimited plan. Cricket, on the other hand, has only just allowed its customers to add 8GB of hotspot data on its $60 unlimited plan but for $10 per month.
