T-Mobile and MetroPCS today announced Kyocera Hydro Life, water, drop and shock-resistant Android. The Hydro Life will be sold by T-Mobile at Walmart starting August 8 while MetroPCS Kyocera Hydro Life will start being available on August 29.
Kyocera Hydro Life is dust resistant and can be up to a meter (3.28 feet) under water for up to 30 minutes (IP57 certified) without being damaged. It has reinforced casing, a non-slip finish and it’s fully protected from drops and shock (Military Standard 810G). And to make it complete, its 4.5-inch qHD display is resistant to impacts. Inside Hydro Life, there is a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor that powers the phone along with a 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. The phone comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing one, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi calling, Bluetooth 4.0 and support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform and has improved sound due to Kyocera’s Smart Sonic receiver. A 2,000mAh battery powers the Hydro Life but Kyocera’s apps EcoMode and MaxiMZR additionally conserve battery life.
Customers will be able to pair the Kyocera Hydro Life with MetroPCS’s 4G LTE plans. The $40 monthly plan offers unlimited talk, text and data with first 500MB at high-speeds. The $50 plan has up to 2.5GB of high speed data while the $60 plan provides everything unlimited. MetroPCS throttles data to 128 Kbps after high-speed data allotment.
T-Mobile will be selling Kyocera Hydro Life for $124.99 plus taxes and fees. Price for MetroPCS’s version hasn’t been disclosed.
