As of today, June 8, 2012, another prepaid 4G LTE smartphone has become available for those who want LTE connectivity without signing a contract. MetroPCS launches Huawei Activa 4G LTE smartphone, the fifth LTE-capable device for MetroPCS and first one for Huawei in the U.S. Huawei Activa 4G is available in stores and online for $149 after $50 mail-in rebate.
Besides LTE connectivity, MetroPCS Huawei Activa 4G comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 800MHz processor, 1880mAh battery, a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, main 5-megapixel camera with single LED flash, VGA front-facing camera for making video calls and 4GB microSD card with Kung Fu Panda 2 preloaded.
This is just the beginning of MetroPCS’s strategy to increase the number of LTE customers by adding low-cost Android LTE-enabled smartphones, ranging from $99 to $149. From total number of MetroPCS subscribers, 9.34 million, 580000 (around 6 percent of subscriber base) are LTE subscribers. As company ones mentioned, five phone manufacturers are working on making these devices so at least we know that one of them is Huawei.
“We are honored to bring our first 4G LTE device to U.S. audiences with the support of MetroPCS’ powerful and expansive network,” said Michael Chuang, executive vice president of Huawei Device USA. “MetroPCS is committed to providing customers with advanced, flexible and affordable smartphone options through its no-annual contract services, and is the ideal partner for Huawei’s entrance into a new era for smartphones and handsets.”
