Other rumored specs of the new Moto G have also been confirmed. The phone has a 5-inch (1280×720) HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm 410 processor, 13-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video capture and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It features 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, expandable memory up to 32GB, a 2470 mAh battery that lasts all day and the latest version of Android OS, Lollipop 5.1.1. For those who are not fans of the newly added Moto Maker support that allows owners to change the color of their phone’s back, front, accent or to engrave something on the handset, the phone is available in black and white with a metallic frame. Motorola’s regular and flip shells in a variety of colors are also still available for purchase just as they were with previous versions of the Moto G.
The Moto G can be purchased today on Motorola’s website for $179 for the 1GB RAM and 8GB storage version. There is also a 2GB /16GB model that costs slightly more, $219.99. The phone should arrive to stores in August.
Motorola’s 2015 flagship Moto X Style, or the Pure Edition as it will be offered in the USA, keeps the similar, recognizable design but has a few tweaks added, enough to make it a fresh new phone. Moto X Style comes with a 5.7-inch (2560×144) display, a 1.8GHz hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16/32/64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 21-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing one, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and a 3000mAh battery. The phone also features Quick Charging technology. Motorola said that the Moto X Style, or the Moto X Pure Edition, will support nearly all LTE networks worldwide and therefore the phone won’t be sold by US carriers. The phone will be unlocked and available in September for $399.
Motorola also today announced the Moto X Play. This version of the Moto X comes with slightly more modest specs than the flagship’s. The Moto X Play has a 5.5-inch (1920×1080) display, 1.7GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 4G LTE connectivity, 21-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing one. It runs Android 5.1.1 and uses a 3630mAh battery to power the phone, together with a Motorola’s Turbo Power that charges the phone in 15 minutes for additional 8 hours of usage. The battery lasts for two days. This phone can also be customized with Moto Maker, just like Moto X Pure Edition and the new Moto G. Although the Moto X Play will be available starting in August, Motorola hasn’t announced its availability for the USA.
Update: The Moto G 2015 will be offered in at least two variants in the USA, in GSM and CDMA. The GSM model of the Moto G, XT1540, will include support for EDGE, HSPA+, and LTE. The CDMA model, XT1548, will support all the bands that GSM model supports plus LTE for world roaming. In addition, Motorola named three US carriers that will offer the new Moto G: two Sprint prepaid brands, Sprint Prepaid and Virgin Mobile and the U.S. Cellular.
