New Virgin Mobile Plans Offer More Data At Lower Monthly Rates
Sprint’s prepaid brand Virgin Mobile has introduced new monthly plans. New Virgin Mobile plans include two monthly options instead of previous three. The carrier has significantly increased amount of high speed data at lower monthly rates. Virgin is now offering $35 option with 5GB of high speed data and $45 option with 10GB of data. Previously, customers were able to choose from $30/500MB, $40/4GB and $60/6GB of high speed data.
New Virgin Mobile Plans
In addition to 5GB and 10GB of data, the new $35 and $45 plans also offer:
- $35 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 5GB at high speed
- $45 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 10GB at high speed
After high speed data allotments, data are throttled to 2G or around 128Kbps until the next billing cycle. Both plans also continue to offer free unlimited music streaming that doesn’t count against plans’ high speed data. Available music streaming providers are Pandora, iHeartRadio, Slacker, 8tracks and Milk Music. To both plans, customers can add more high speed data, too, if needed. They can choose from two options:
- $5/30 days for 1GB of high speed data
- $10/ 30 days for 2GB of high speed data
Virgin Mobile also charges mobile hotspot usage with new plans. Customers can choose from the daily hotspot option that includes 500MB of data for $3 or from couple of monthly hotspot plans: $5 for 1GB per month and $10 for 2GB per month. In any case, they can connect up to 5 WiFi enabled devices.
Comparing To Other Prepaid Plans And Carriers
The last time when Virgin Mobile changed its plans was in February this year. Back then and in May this year, Sprint announced a new strategy for Virgin. If this is what they had in plan, new Virgin Mobile plans are indeed more competitive given the amount of high speed data offered at lower monthly rates. Currently, Virgin’s $35/5GB plan competes only to Total Wireless’s single $35/5GB plan, although, Virgin is owned by Sprint and Total Wireless is TracFone owned and uses Verizon network.
Regarding $45/10GB plan, it beats plans of TracFone subsidiaries: GoSmart’s $45 plan (T-Mobile network) with 12 GB of data but 3G, Simple Mobile’s $55/10GB 4GLTE plan that’s with auto pay available for $50, Straight Talk‘s $55/10GB plan, Telcel America’s $49.50/10GB with auto pay or Walmart Family Mobile’s $49.88/10GB plan.
