Republic Wireless BYOP Compatible With Google Pixel and Pixel XL Smartphones
Couple of days ago, Google officially announced the new Pixel smartphones, Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Pixel phones, which used to be called Nexus, can be pre-ordered now but will be available for purchase on October 20, 2016. As soon as they launch, they will be compatible with Republic Wireless BYOP, the carrier announced. Customers will be able to purchase a SIM card for $5 and activate their new Pixel phone with Republic GSM service ones it ships.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL Specs
Google Pixel and Pixel XL come with a 5-inch Full HD and 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED displays, respectively. Batteries are also different; the Pixel has a 2770mAh battery while Pixel XL’s is 3450mAh. Other specs match. Both phones ship with Android 7.0 Nougat OS and Pixel Launcher UI. They have a 2.15GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32/128GB of internal storage that cannot be expanded. However, some storage can be saved since there is unlimited Google Photos storage with full resolution support on both phones. The main camera on both Google Pixel and Pixel XL is a 12.3-megapixel while front-facing one is 8-megapixels. Also, phones feature a fingerprint scanner, NFC, Google Assistant, USB Type-C charging, and Fast charging.
The Google Pixel and Pixel XL will be available in Quite Black, Very Silver, And Really Blue color. The Google Pixel 32GB is priced at $649 while 128GB version costs $749. The Pixel XL versions are over $100 pricier for having a larger and richer with pixels displays and larger batteries; the 32GB model is $769 while 128GB is $869.
Republic Wireless GSM plans
Both Pixel phones, along with other nine GSM phones compatible with Republic Wireless BYOP, can be paired with the following plans:
- $15 plan – unlimited talk and text and WiFi data
- $20 plan – unlimited talk, text and WiFi data plus 1GB of cellular data
- $30 plan – unlimited talk, text and WiFi data plus 2GB of cellular data
- $45 plan – unlimited talk, text and WiFi data plus 4GB of cellular data
- $60 plan – unlimited talk, text and WiFi data plus 6GB of cellular data
- $90 plan – unlimited talk, text and WiFi data plus 10GB of cellular data
Republic Wireless used to be Sprint compatible provider only for years. Its phones were unique due to a hybrid technology built-in for switching between WiFi and cellular service. However, since late July, the carrier has expanded its coverage and phone lineup with a GSM-based provider (T-Mobile) and GSM handsets. Shortly after, Republic has started selling SIM cards that were allowing its BYOP to work. The cost of the SIM card is $5 but a tax and shipping costs also apply.
