Sprint, Boost and Virgin Mobile to Launch Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge
Sprint and its prepaid brands Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile might launch a new smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge, soon. According to VentureBeat, the Galaxy J3 will launch on January 6, 2017. The Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge is the second generation of the Galaxy J3 (2016), also known as Galaxy J3 (2017).
Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge Specs
The upcoming Sprint, Boost and Virgin Mobile smartphone inherits display, a 5-inch (1280×720), cameras, battery and storage from 2016 version. However, the phone comes with better processor, RAM memory and operating system.
The J3 Emerge runs on an octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor rather than a quad core. The phone has 2GB of RAM (was 1.5GB), 16 GB of internal storage and Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS (2016 version uses Lollipop). The cameras are the same, 5-megapixel main and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. A 2600mAh battery powers the new phone just as it was with previous version.
If Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge launches for these three carriers, prepaid customers will be able to pair it with Boost and Virgin Mobile plans that start at $35 ($30 with autopay at Boost).
Boost Mobile Plans
- $35 plan ($30 with autopay) – unlimited talk, messaging and data with 2GB at high speed, 50 minutes of domestic voice roaming, hotspot usage and unlimited free music streaming that doesn’t count against plan’s high speed data. Additional high speed data can be added: $5/1GB and $10/2GB.
- $50 Unlimited Gigs plan – unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data. Video and music streaming as well as gaming is optimized: videos at up to 480p, music at up to 500kbps and gaming up to 2mbps. Hotspot is also limited to 8GB of 4G LTE data.
Virgin Mobile Plans
- $35 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 5GB at high speed plus free music streaming that doesn’t count against plans’ high speed data
- $45 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with 10GB at high speed plus free music streaming that doesn’t count against plans’ high speed data
Customers can also add additional high speed data to both plans: $5/1GB or $10/2GB of high speed data per month.
For now, the launch of the Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge for Sprint, Boost and Virgin Mobile is just a rumor. However, the source is pretty reliable so it will be interested to see for how much the phone will launch if/when it launches. Its predecessor has been released in January this year for $179.99.
