Straight Talk and Net10 BYOP users get 5GB of high speed data instead of 3GB, Net10 adds more data to other plans
TracFone subsidiaries Straight Talk and Net10 are now offering more high speed data to their BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) customers. Straight Talk gives 5GB of high speed data instead of regular 3GB to its BYOP customers on the $45 unlimited and the $60 unlimited international plan. Net10 BYOP users get 5GB data increase on plans that originally offer 3GB of high speed data. Those plans are the $50 Unlimited Plan, the $65 Unlimited International Plan, all unlimited Phone Upgrade Plans and the Family $90, $130 and $170 plans with 2, 3 and 4 lines, respectively.
Straight Talk and Net10 BYOP programs activate phones compatible with Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile networks as well as most of unlocked GSM handsets. Also, when high speed data allotment is reached in a month, both carriers reduce data speeds to 64 Kbps. Straight Talk doesn’t offer any information whether or not 5 GB BYOP data increase is a permanent or a limited time offer while Net10 on its website calls this “new special offer” a promotion.
Net10 has increased data on some other plans as well. Data increases on these plans are available to all customers: those who have a NET10 phone and those who bring their own phone compatible with one of the networks available. The plans that now include more high speed data or get data for the first time are:
- $35 plan – now includes unlimited data with the first 500 MB at high speeds instead of having no data at all; in addition, the plan includes unlimited talk and text
- $40 plan – now includes 1.5 GB of high speed data instead of previous 500 MB in addition to unlimited talk and text
- $75 Family Plan with 2 lines – now includes 1.5 GB of high speed data per line instead of previous 500 MB
Straight Talk and NET10 are both selling SIM cards currently for 99¢ with free overnight shipping. Free shipping is available until May 12, 2015.
