Straight Talk LG Sunset Full Review
Soon after it was launched in June 2015, Straight Talk LG Sunset became one of the most popular phones for this carrier. That’s not surprising since LG Sunset has great specs and a price. For a 4G LTE Android 5.0 smartphone with a 4.5-inch touchscreen and 1.2GHz quad core processor, price tag of $99.99 is more than acceptable. LG Sunset works only on the $45 and $60 monthly service plans and one of these two is required for activation.
Straight Talk LG Sunset is a GSM phone that uses AT&T network so the coverage shouldn’t be an issue. Its ability to connect to AT&T 4G LTE service makes LG Sunset quite a fast phone for data transfer. Some users reported average download speed 20-25 Mbps and upload around 6 Mbps. In combination with recently increased high speed data to 5GB on the Straight Talk’s $45 unlimited and the $60 unlimited international plans, surfing with LG Sunset can be really a pleasure.
Besides 4G LTE connectivity, LG Sunset also uses GPS, Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n with WiFi Direct. WiFi Direct enables devices to connect with each other without requiring a wireless access point like network or hotspot. Bluetooth 4.1 support headset, hands-free, object push, advanced audio distribution (stereo), audio/video remote control, file transfer, human interface device, and phone book access.
Dimensions of LG Sunset are 5.11″ (H) x 2.55″ (W) x 0.43″ (D) and it weights 4.83 oz. It has a 4.5-inch FWVGA 16.7M Color TFT, 854 x 480 pixels touchscreen. The processor is a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8916, so the apps are loading instantly and you can forget about lagging. LG Sunset runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, therefore all the Google Play goodies are at your hand. It has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Actually, only half of internal memory, up to 4.14 GB, is usable. Other half is used by Android. So, 4 Gigs of memory is enough for apps installs, but for images and videos you’ll have to use microSD card. LG Sunset has microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB. Memory card is not included.
Straight Talk LG Sunset has a 5-megapixel rear facing Autofocus camera with Flash and Full HD Camcorder and VGA front facing camera with video recorder. It also features Cheese Shutter which allows using your voice to take a picture, Burst Shot – to take multiple shots quickly, Gesture Shot – take selfies with a simple hand gesture and self timer. Video camera has 720p mode and full HD 1920 x 1080p mod. It features Live Shot – take still shots while recording video, Geotagging – store location information with photos and videos and of course Image editor.
