T-Mobile US is now the No. 1 prepaid carrier in the US
T-Mobile US has announced that they are now the leader in number of prepaid customers in the United States. T-Mobile and MetroPCS together count a total of 15.64 million prepaid customers. MetroPCS alone has over 10 million prepaid subscribers, from which 1.2 million were gained since a year ago.
In the number of prepaid subscribers, right behind T-Mobile US is the Sprint with 15.19 million of prepaid customers. The next in the row is AT&T with 11.34 million and the last is Verizon Wireless, which reports having 6.04 million prepaid customers in their subscriber base.
T-Mobile US also notes that this number in prepaid market continues to grow and that surpassing Sprint in prepaid is not the only thing they are planning to do. T-Mobile US’s president and CEO, John Legere plans to surpass Sprint in total number of subscribers as well by the end of 2014:
“The momentum we’re seeing with our T-Mobile and MetroPCS brands is outstanding, and the fact that we’ve blown by everyone to take the No.1 spot in prepaid is icing on the cake. As a matter of fact, I’m going on record—I predict we’ll overtake Sprint in total customers by the end of this year. Not someday. Not next year. This year. Americans are voting with their feet, and they’re joining this Un-carrier revolution by the millions.” – Legere said.
In the announcement, he also said that customer care provided by T-Mobile and MetroPCS is on the highest level given that both companies in their respective categories gained “the highest J.D. Power scores for customer care.”
