Ting to start activating iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on September 29
Sprint MVNO Ting has announced on its official blog yesterday that starting September 29, it will start activating iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c Sprint compatible. Sprint is forbidding its less than a year old handsets from being activated on its MVNOs but now that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are arriving to all major carriers in the next couple of days, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) restriction has been lifted on these two phones.
In order to activate Sprint compatible iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c on Ting successfully on announced day, the phone needs to have a nano SIM card inserted, Ting notes. Otherwise, customers can get one from Ting for $9. Also, Ting can activate only iPhone 5s or 5c that’s coming originally from Sprint and not from its prepaid brands like Boost or Virgin Mobile or its MVNOs like Straight Talk.
Other iPhones, 4, 4S and 5 are already available for activation on Ting’s Bring Your Own Device program. iPhone 5 has been added to the BYOD list in March 2014 and on that occasion, Ting has announced that support for activating iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will be added in September 2014.
Sprint has blocked its MVNOs from activating “less than one year old” phones last year in November giving customers only few days notice.
