TracFone Adds New Refills For Smartphones And BYOD
TracFone has enriched its prepaid offering recently by adding new airtime service plans for smartphones and bring your own devices (BYOD) only. TracFone adds new refills that include voice minutes, texts and data, good for 90 days. New TracFone refills do not triple like regular airtime cards; instead they include already determined number of minutes, texts and data. New refills are:
- $90 airtime service plan with 3000 minutes, 3000 text messages, 1.5GB of data at high speed and 90 days of service
- $75 airtime service plan with 2000 minutes, 3000 text messages, 1GB of data at high speed and 90 days of service
- $50 airtime service plan with 1000 minutes, 2000 text messages, 500MB of data at high speed and 90 days of service
- $35 airtime service plan with 500 minutes, 1000 text messages, 400MB of data at high speed and 90 days of service
To new airtime service plans, more data can be added and more texts if needed. TracFone is selling data only cards with $50/4GB, $30/2GB, $15/750MB and $10/300MB of data. There is also a $10 card that includes text messages only, 1000 of them. However, the only problem is that customers cannot add just voice minutes without adding texts and data in addition. If they add minutes with, for example, $19.99/60 minutes card, they will get not just tripled 180 minutes but also 180 texts and 180 megabytes of data, good for 90 days. A $29.99 card with 120 minutes will add 360 minutes, 360 texts and 360 megabytes of data and so on.
Regarding BYOD, TracFone currently supports Verizon, AT&T locked and unlocked GSM phones. However, there have been some indications recently that TracFone might add T-Mobile support to its BYOD program that would allow activation of locked T-Mobile phones as well.
