TracFone BYOD activates 4G LTE CDMA phones
TracFone Wireless, a subsidiary of America Movil, has officially started activating CDMA 4G LTE phones on its Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. For the past month, there have been some reports that users were able to activate Verizon-compatible smartphones on TracFone BYOD but it wasn’t working for everyone. Now that it’s official, hopefully, it will work properly.
Up until now, TracFone was allowing only 3G Verizon smartphones on its BYOD program so being able to activate any postpaid Verizon LTE smartphone is a significant change. TracFone is selling on its BYOD page CDMA LTE Activation Kit for $0.99 that includes nano, micro and standard CDMA LTE SIM cards. However, until March 31, 2015, customers can get free shipping if they purchase a CDMA LTE Activation Kit bundle for $40.98 or higher, which includes CDMA LTE Activation Kit and airtime card. Shipping regularly costs $4.95 so in order to qualify for the free shipping, a purchase of at least $39.99 refill is needed.
The Verizon-compatible 4G LTE phone that customer wants to activate on TracFone must be in good standing and not stolen. Also, expected Verizon LTE speeds on TracFone are just like with Page Plus Cellular, Verizon MVNO, around 5 Mbps.
Customers who bring their own compatible or unlocked Verizon LTE smartphone to TracFone will be able to pair it with triple minutes for life plan. TracFone is offering separate minutes, text and data buckets so ‘triple minutes’ do not triple only voice minutes but text and data too. If you purchase a $19.99 card with 60 minutes, for example, you will get three times more minutes – 180, three times more texts -180 and three times more megabytes, also 180, good for 90 days. A $29.99 120-minute card gives 360 minutes, 360 texts and 360 MB of data. Unused minutes, texts and MBs rollover with Unlimited Carryover if service is active and in use within each six months.
TracFone’s subsidiaries, Straight Talk and Net10, are already activating LTE phones on all four major networks.
